Solid 3.5 ⭐️ I’m trying to make my way through some books on my list & this is an older one. From the author of Drowning Ruth, comes a story of a young married couple in the late 19th century who travel from Wisconsin to California to take care of a lighthouse. But things aren’t always what they seem, including their marriage. Oskar has big dreams & is always trying to come up with the next big invention. Trudy is restless & yearns for something more than the planned life her parents have for her & she believes she has found her escape with Oskar. The couple move to Port Lucia, CA to take a job at a lighthouse. They are almost alone, except for the guarded Crawley family, isolated from the outside world. I really enjoyed the story, but it was a slow build for me. The details are vivid, the characters are well developed, the setting dreamlike.
