A desperate woman will go to great lengths to survive. Down to the last of their money and on the verge of losing their house, Gwen Bernard, is prepared to marry an older man she doesn’t love. When two men from the O’Brien investigation agency arrive looking for her missing brother, Graham, Gwen learns that he is the heir to a dukedom. She convinces her mother to go along with a scheme where she impersonates Graham and claims the inheritance until the Peelers can locate him. She doesn’t account for her reaction to Miles Wickton, her second cousin and the man who sent for her brother. Can she keep her ruse intact and Miles’ friendship long enough for everything to end well?

The Duplicate Duke is a fast paced and sweet romantic comedy from Aubrey Wynne. The story itself is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, and the book is tied to the Wicked Widows, Wayward Dukes, and Paddy’s Peelers series. Gwen throws herself wholeheartedly into her charade and enjoys the freedom of posing as a male. While Miles is initially angry at being fooled, their conflict is resolved quickly. There’s plenty of surprises to be had as other secrets are revealed and several couples find happy endings. You don’t need to be familiar with Ms. Wynne’s other books to enjoy this one, but you may find that her characters are ones you want more of. These books are clean and wholesome with plenty of lighthearted moments perfect for an escape from the world for a while.
