The Dos and Donuts of Love by Adiba Jaigirdar will tug at reader's heart strings! And as someone who goes into YAs with skepticism and critique, I adored this book so much. Our main character, Shireen is still grieving over the breakup with her girlfriend, while her best friend is out of the country visiting family during the summer. Her only hope for a new positive outlook on life is to be accepted into a Junior Irish Baking Show competition. Not only for the chance to win the competition to help her parent's donuts shop, but to further her dreams of having her own bakery one day. But the bubble to her dreams shrink when she realizes that her ex, Chris, is also among the selected contestants.

I was prepared for the dramatics of teenagers in the narrative but as an avid baker and baking show fanatic, I was committed! lol What I wasn't prepared for was the in your face racism and cyber bullying that Shireen and Chris were dealing with while contestants on the Junior Irish Baking Show.

I was impressed with how Chris and Shireen were able to work together and compete against each on the show even with all their relationship baggage. That showed just how close they were and in my opinion more maturity than even adults in the real world. As readers follow Shireen through the competition, I believe readers will appreciate the journey her character experiences.

Main lesson this story emulates is that things do not have to be this or that; collaboration and compromises yield better results.
