Pepper is the surprised inmate of a mental institution in Queens, New York. In the darkness of his room, on his first night, a terrifying creature with the body of an old man and the head of a bison nearly kills him before being hustled away by the hospital staff. It’s no delusion: The other patients confirm that a devil roams the hallways when the sun goes down. Pepper rallies three other inmates in a plot to kill the monster that’s stalking them. But can the Devil die?

The Devil in Silver is a thrillingly suspenseful literary work about friendship, love, and the courage to slay our own demons.

This books has so many twists and turns it's kind of hard to keep up. There are definitely aspects of it that seem farfetched but it is still very good

LaValle masterfully weaves together elements of horror, social commentary, and literary fiction to create a gripping and unsettling tale of a man trapped in a mental institution with a demonic presence. The book is notable for its vivid characterizations, its exploration of the dehumanizing effects of institutionalization, and its sharp critique of the American healthcare system. LaValle's prose is both beautiful and harrowing, and he skillfully builds tension throughout the book to create a truly unforgettable reading experience.
