The Deadly Tapestry

I do love a cosy mystery and this is definitely a cosy mystery, outrageously unconventional crossing lines that no police force would allow but done with such aplomb. Maisie Button's husband had been tragically killed, she had pulled herself up by her bootstrings, moved from LA to the small, backwater town of Thistle Grove, Oregon, where she opened a craft shop that she called Tangled Threads. Maisie and her adored cat. Mewsley, were building up a close circle of friends, helped by the clubs that she had set up, the Friday Knit and Natter and the Saturday Sew Something, both helped along by coffee and cake that added to the ambiance. Margot Bellamy had been a regular member of the clubs, she was currently working on a tapestry depicting the history of the town........that is until she was brutally murdered. Before her death, Margot had made Maisie promise that if anything happened to her that she would finish the tapestry, hinting that there were hidden clues woven into it. The police didn't seem to be very interested in catching the killer so the intrepid Knit and Natterers decided that they would become armature sleuths, they would solve the murder, a murder that had to be connected to the disappearance of a baby many years ago. Maisie, retired teacher Ree, former sheriff, Bev, single mum Cherry, librarian Brian and college dropout MJ, who was trying to find the direction that her life would go, set about the task in hand, one by one they started deciphering the clues that Margot had cleverly woven into the tapestry, they dug deep, they asked questions, they used all the means at their disposal. The author has written such diverse, quirky but likeable characters into a story with an unusual concept, OK, I did guess the outcome of the plot quite early on but it didn't spoil my enjoyment.
