I have loved Bob Mortimer in every show I’ve seen him in. This is a quaint, charming, and somewhat quirky novel that exceeded my expectations. Mortimer was not the right person to narrate this, however. The seriousness of narrating an audiobook compared to off the cuff live comedy overcame him and stiffened up his delivery. I would definitely read more by Mortimer, but this isn’t a fast paced, zany read. More charming than anything.
A slow start, but once it picked up the pace, it became a fantastic read.
I really don’t know what I was expecting with this book. I wasn’t expecting a romance or a “true” thriller but somehow, kinda, maybe got both? I devoured the book in an hour or so and genuinely loved the main character. He was self-depreciating and kept talking to squirrel fiends, what is not to love? Enjoyable read even though it was so weird trying to understand what was happening, who was a “copper,” who was a villain, etc. It tied up nicely in the end.
I really enjoyed this book! It was a fun quick read. I was amused throughout at the random tangents 🤣
It was good but not great or amazing so I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 or 6/10
The humor, at first, was intriguing. The characters,at first, were quirky. Then I grew tired. It was predictable. I will not read another book by Mortimer.
