The Christmas Ring: A Winter Romance (Kingsbury, Karen)

Sometimes love is just a shop away. This heartwarming and emotional small-town romance from beloved author Karen Kingsbury shows that love the second time around can be found in unlikely places, often alongside healing and hope. As romance blooms between a military widow and the antique dealer who promises to find her heirloom family ring, they will both have to honor the past and find a way towards their happily ever after.

After losing her husband, Vanessa Mayfield believed her heart was closed for good. Returning to her quiet hometown, she plans to focus on helping others and rebuilding a peaceful life--nothing more.

While searching for her family's long-lost heirloom ring, she meets Ben Miller, a local antique dealer. The two are drawn to each other and forge a friendship that soon becomes a deep and breathtaking romance. But neither are sure that what they've found can last.

As Vanessa organizes her annual Columbus Cares Christmas Military Dance, she looks forward to her daughter's return from college. But Vanessa hasn't told Sadie about Ben. After all, Vanessa hadn't anticipated finding love again after losing her husband.

Just as Ben is about to declare his love for Vanessa, he discovers a secret about her missing ring that could unravel their relationship before it had the chance to start.

Certain he knows where Vanessa's ring is, Ben leaves town in a frantic rush. But can he stop a certain sale, or will Vanessa's ring be lost forever?

This book was lovely. I kept thinking ahead on what the ending would be. Wouldn’t it have been nice if Vanessa and Ben tried to find the original owner of the ring’s descendants, and gave it back? Because, in reality, it really didn’t belong to Vanessa’s family, either. But the way the story reconciled was heart-warming, just the same. I both read and listened to ‘The Christmas Ring’. Want to check it out when the movie comes to a streaming platform soon.

🎄💍The Christmas Ring Book Review💍🎄 Synopsis: The Christmas Ring by Karen Kingsbury is a tender holiday novella about love, loss, and the quiet miracles that can unfold when hope is given room to breathe. Set during the Christmas season, the story follows a grieving woman whose past and present unexpectedly collide through a simple yet deeply meaningful ring. As memories resurface and long-buried emotions are stirred, she’s faced with the possibility that love may not be finished with her after all. With Kingsbury’s signature faith-filled storytelling, this heartfelt tale explores forgiveness, second chances, and the healing power of God’s perfect timing. ⸻ ★★★★★ 5 Stars What a beautiful and deeply comforting Christmas story. I absolutely loved The Christmas Ring by Karen Kingsbury. It was such a joy to slow down and spend time with a clean, faith-filled holiday read that felt both charming and emotionally rich. The Northern Georgia setting was especially nostalgic for me, reminding me of my high school years there. I loved recognizing familiar town names and Reinhardt University, where Vanessa’s daughter, Sadie, attends—it added such a personal, cozy layer to the story. Vanessa and Ben were incredibly sweet together. Watching their friendship unfold and gently grow into something more felt natural and tender. I also loved the unique premise centered around antiques and Vanessa’s lost Christmas ring. As someone who truly enjoys antiquing, that thread brought extra warmth and meaning to the story. The military aspect was beautifully and respectfully written, offering an eye-opening look at the sacrifices, uncertainty, and quiet strength of military families. The faith woven through these moments made them even more powerful and moving. The bond between Vanessa and her daughter, Sadie, was especially touching and hit close to home for me personally. Several moments were emotional, but they only deepened my appreciation for how thoughtfully this story was told. Overall, The Christmas Ring is a gentle, faith-driven Christmas story about love, loss, second chances, and the beauty of God’s perfect timing—and now I’m anxiously awaiting watching the movie adaptation based on the book. 🎄✨

Matthew 6:21 says, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” But “treasures are rare and never easy to find…Like poetry, antiques are proof that the past happened. That it was real…Antiques let you hold a piece of history in your hand. And wonder about the person who held it first.” “God doesn’t always answer our prayers with a yes…But that was true for Jesus, too. His greatest prayer in the garden of Gethsemane was met with a ‘no.’” As military widow Vanessa knows, “Believing didn’t mean things would go her way…God had answered all her prayers. Life hadn’t turned out how either she or Ben had planned. But God’s plans were still good. Better than Vanessa or Ben ever could’ve dreamed. God had ordered their steps and here they were. Because home wasn’t a place—it was the people Vanessa loved. Home. It was all part of the miracle…With God, to love again was possible.” “This was the year God had brought more than one miracle into her life. So maybe it was possible, after all. First Ben Miller. And now, just maybe, her long-lost Christmas ring.” As Vanessa, her daughter Sadie, and widower Ben Miller discover, “Love is the greatest diamond in the rough. Especially at Christmastime” and “the gift of time is the greatest gift of all…The trick is knowing when to hold on to the past…And when to let it go…Forgiveness is the fabric that brings about a beautiful Christmas for us all.” ‘ Karen Kingsbury’s The Christmas Ring is a jewel ringed with a circle of glimmering diamonds of patriotism, family, love and redemption.
