The Castle of Otranto is a 1764 novel by Horace Walpole. It is generally regarded as the first gothic novel, initiating a literary genre which would become extremely popular in the later 18th and early 19th century, with authors such as Charles Maturin, Ann Radcliffe, Bram Stoker, Edgar Allan Poe and Daphne du Maurier.

A journey back in time. For a male audience. "The Castle Of Otranto" was the world's first Gothic novel which was what drew me to it. It was an old strange story on romance, supernatural events and how no sin will ever go unpaid. Much was said about the little value men gave to women in 1764.

I think this book started something I didn't expect, more so an interest in horror fiction that I forgot about because I was too busy trying to be smart. Its marked as the first gothic novel written, and has a pretty neat history. T'is quite good.
