This was not at all what I remembered from the movie. I may have to rewatch the movie. Interesting story, the ending felt unfinished.
Oscar Wilde reinstated my love for novellas in just over 50 pages with The Canterville Ghost. His books have endless readability and great humor! This one was a delight with its paranormal protagonist, who was really not what he seemed to be. The ability to write an engaging and complete story in so few pages is impressive and special. I plan to read every Oscar Wilde piece, and I have yet to dislike a single one! Would recommend.
Oh, this was fun! I enjoyed this ghost story with humor AND emotion.

a really interesting allegory on (19th century) European die-hard traditionalism vs Americans seeing black and white solutions and the sometimes overdrawn responsibility of the individual.
The ghost is just the way things have been, existing alongside nobility and rooted in their traditions, while the new family in his home really can't be bothered to care or fixate on the problem without immediately applying obvious solutions.
Ultimately the best solution was much deeper, but Virginia is a lot more forgiving than I am. Sure, there were grand rewards to be reaped for setting his soul free, but if you kill your wife for her cooking I will gladly let those little brothers torment you for the rest of eternity. Sorry they cleaned up the bloodstain you freak but stop wasting her paints to save your ego.
