Great rom-com, cute and quirky, just like our FMC, Josie.
The plot:
This is a little bit of cinderella and a whole lot of should we or shouldn't we (hint: the answer is; they should π)
Wesley is definitely Prince Charming to Josie's Cinderella because after a one night stand, he doesn't know exactly who she is, and he's already fallen for her π and a scarf becomes a glass slipper.
The one night stand:
Sexy time to start the book in Chapter 7, and it is descriptive and sexy and absolute π₯ Wesley, and Josie's chemistry is off the charts.
The aha moment:
Once they get their embarrassing introduction by Josie's brother, Wesley's team captain, Josie gets firmly put in the "we won't do fellow teammates sisters restricted area" by Wesley when he becomes Sophie's emergency roommate.
The plan:
The ship starts to sail more smoothly when they create a roommate pact; roommates are off limits and friends only.
They really get rolling when Josie pulls out Aunt Greta's Top ten things i've never regretted list. The list is bold, fun things for Josie to do to make sure she has no regrets in life and is great to do with a partner. The more time Josie and Wesley spend together, the more sparks fly and where there are sparks, there is fire and the roommate pact goes up in flames.
The book is a true romance with plenty of spicy times, I'm giving it πΆπΆ/5 chilis on the spicy scale.
It has a very HEA and an extremely satisfying epilogue.
I listened to the audiobook and Erin Mallon and Connor Crais absolutely nail it. It's duet narration, 2 POVs, 2 narrators, first person.

Lauren Blakely delivers exactly what I wanted from a hockey romance. The Boyfriend Goal is flirty, funny, spicy, and packed with just enough plot to keep the pages turning between all the excellent smut.
Josie is a shy librarian trying to step outside her comfort zone when she shares an unforgettable one-night stand with a handsome stranger. When her housing falls through, she scrambles to find a place to live and ends up renting a room from Wes. Her new roommate just so happens to be that sexy stranger and her brother's hockey teammate. They agree to keep things platonic, but sharing a house with someone you desperately want to climb like a tree is easier said than done.
I loved that the hockey stayed in the background while the romance took center stage. Josie was adorable with her books, introverted personality, and bucket list adventures. Wes was charming, protective, filthy-mouthed, and knew exactly what he was doing. The chemistry between these two was off the charts. The intimate scenes were plentiful, descriptive, and so well written that I found myself needing a fan more than once.
I appreciated that the forbidden romance existed almost entirely in Wes and Josie's heads because her brother could not have cared less that they were dating. My biggest complaint was the third-act breakup. Wes blaming Josie for his slump on the ice instead of taking accountability for his own performance made me want to shake him. His teammate calling him out was exactly what I was yelling at the book.
I could not stop seeing similarities between The Deal by Elle Kennedy while reading. Both feature a hockey player with an impossible father to please, poor performances after falling for the heroine, and a predictable journey of working through emotional baggage before getting the girl. The similarities are hard to ignore, but Lauren Blakely adds enough charm, humor, and spice to make it feel fresh and entertaining.
The Boyfriend Goal is not trying to reinvent the hockey romance. It is a feel-good popcorn read packed with banter, sexual tension, and enough steam to fog up a mirror. Pick this up if you love a bookworm heroine, forced proximity, roommates who cannot keep their hands off each other, and hockey players who know exactly how to talk dirty.
Hands down a new favourite hockey romance! This is my first time reading a book by Lauren Blakely and I loved her style of writing. I can't wait to start the next in the series.
This book was amazing from the start. I normally love my MMC to be brooding, grumpy and unapproachable but I am in love with Wes. He's so sweet and does every in his power to take care of other people. He perfectly balances out the quirky, almost clumsy FMC. The book blends sexiness and sweet together perfectly and their chemistry is so natural. They constantly had me kicking my feet and squealing into my book.
Both of the characters have a lot of growth through out the book and it's perfect that some of the time they help each other to grow, but they also realise that some things they have to do by themselves.
Another favourite part of this book is that it actually talks about the hockey games. This is the first hockey romance book I've read where it does snippets of game play. It's not too much that is boring or takes away from the rest of the book but its the perfect amount for you to feel what Wesley feels in the game and post.
Overall i thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and will continue on with the series. I cant wait to see what Max and Everly bring!!
