As much as I wanted to love this book as much as the description made it seem fantastic, it was just...okay. When I began reading, it felt like an introduction passage. I kept waiting for the story to get deeper, but it never did. It felt more like an overview. The characters definitely could have been more developed. Near the end of the book, it seems to fall flat and wrap up quickly in what doesn't seem like the right place or at the right pace. The narrator's age of eleven was also strange, I found. Too young to be all that insightful, a couple of years older could have made a big difference. This book had a lot of potential but ended up being only a fragment of a deeper, more developed story that could have been.
I loved the idea of the book and I thought her writing was great. The book flowed really well. I would have given it 4 stars if I wasn't so dissatisfied with the ending.
