The Age of Innocence

The Age of Innocence is Edith Wharton's twelfth novel, initially serialized in four parts in the Pictorial Review magazine in 1920, and later released by D. Appleton and Company as a book in New York and in London. It won the 1921 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, making it the first novel written by a woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, and thus Wharton the first woman to win the prize.The story is set in upper-class New York City in the 1870s.

This tale of high society culture in 18 th century NYC was a little hard to relate to so much later. The ideas that were set up to be scandalous were not at all in modern times. The descriptions are lavish and it is an interesting period piece.

I'm on my "must-read-more-classics" kick and I started listening to this on the CraftLit podcast. As good as the audio was, I did what I normally do, got impatient, pulled the book from my shelves and finished it. Yes, I listened to the book when it has been sitting on my shelves for years. Don't judge me.
