Taste: My Life Through Food

INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
Named a Notable Book of the Year by NPR and The Washington Post

From award-winning actor and food obsessive Stanley Tucci comes an intimate and charming memoir of life in and out of the kitchen.

Stanley Tucci grew up in an Italian American family that spent every night around the kitchen table. He shared the magic of those meals with us in The Tucci Cookbook and The Tucci Table, and now he takes us beyond the savory recipes and into the compelling stories behind them.

Taste is a reflection on the intersection of food and life, filled with anecdotes about his growing up in Westchester, New York; preparing for and shooting the foodie films Big Night and Julie & Julia; falling in love over dinner; and teaming up with his wife to create meals for a multitude of children. Each morsel of this gastronomic journey through good times and bad, five-star meals and burned dishes, is as heartfelt and delicious as the last.

Written with Stanley’s signature wry humor, Taste is for fans of Bill Buford, Gabrielle Hamilton, and Ruth Reichl—and anyone who knows the power of a home-cooked meal.

This was like a supersized episode of Stanley's Searching for Italy show, which I love. Also lots of background on the movie Big Night, one of my favorites. Lots of fun.

Laugh out loud funny, delightfully witty, heartwarming, and full to the brim with mouth-watering recipes.

Part memoir, part cookbook, and a whole lotta insight into a man who loves his family, food, and yeast for life. "Cooking for her is at once a creative outlet and a way of feeding the family well," is how he describes his mother. Through her, he acquires the gourmet lunches, and yes, sometimes he just wanted a marshmallow fluff sandwich, which he trades with a young boy from his early school years.

I love how he gives so much reverence and love to the food and how it ties into his memories as he depicts his life.

For someone who has grown older, he's still fabulous, as an actor, writer, person, and now, add natural cook to his list of adjectives to describe him.

Actually made me dislike Tucci. Had a rather holier than though attitude throughout the entire book.

Such a fun read. I especially enjoyed that the author narrates the audio version. The downside of the audio version is that you don't have a copy of the recipes.
