The Hunger Games series is one that holds a special place in my reader heart so this prequel was a must read for me. I loved the nostalgia this story brings and getting Haymitch’s story special. We see the why behind his behavior and I had a serious soft spot for Haymitch in the original trilogy and this story made me adore him further. The part about these books that is so hard is how much you fall in love with characters you know are going to die. The entire premise is outlined for us and even though we know what is going to happen, its devastating. So, thank you to Suzanne Collins who ripped my heart out again.

After not feeling the connection with Songbirds and Snakes as I had with the original trilogy, I was worried how I would feel about this book. Well, I loved it.
Haymitch has always been one of my favorite HG characters and I have wanted answers for why he is the way that he is, and now (nearly twenty years later) I have them and this story feels complete.
The tears were flowing while my heart was breaking, but I absolutely enjoyed every bit of it.
