Summer Rental: A Gripping Psychological Thriller (Dark Seasons Thriller Series)

Mean Girls meets Scream in this heart-pounding psychological thriller about a group of friends stranded on an island with a serial killer on the loose.

Riley March and her friends are headed to ritzy, remote Palm Key Island for one last blow-out party weekend before college. It's the vacation of a lifetime: beautiful beaches, epic nightlife, and hot guys like Riley's crush-superstar soccer player Sebastian Ramos. There's just one catch. Everyone on this trip is hiding something. Riley is hiding her past in order to fit in. Sebastian is hiding his feelings for Riley. And someone is hiding what really happened to Jordyn Chang, a classmate that mysteriously died last summer.

Things take a dark turn after one of their friends goes missing, and a hurricane cuts the group off from civilization. Trapped inside their rental house, a killer stalks them one by one. No one is safe. Everyone's a suspect. As the body count rises, Riley and her friends will have to confront the secrets they've been keeping if they want to stay alive...

The book was easy to follow, unpredictable ending of the mystery killer, and had a suspense feel to it. I would agree for those who say mean girls meets scream is the accurate vibe this book gives. It gave me flash backs to my experience in high school as wanting so bad to be popular and I appreciate a book that can make me reflect about my own life I would have liked more character building at least for the main characters , more suspects to spice up the story, and more about the ending. I felt I was left with some questions wondering around but perhaps that is good if there is a sequel in mind. A good thriller always catches me as a reader when the suspense begins early on in the story and gets carried out throughout the whole story to the end consistently. I feel like it would have been more engaging IMO Overall, the book is an easy read and I see the moral it was giving about being authentic, speak up, do the right thing, and choosing friends who choose you, don’t just choose friends for popularity , some friends don’t always have your back like you think they do

It was not as scary as I thought it was going to be. I’m kind of disappointed that the ouija board didn’t make it into a supernatural book but as soon as Blake pulled the stunt I could kind of start connecting the dots. The main character annoyed me because if she was just honest and listened to herself instead of playing games she never would’ve been in that situation but as someone who never makes waves myself I can understand why she didn’t want to. It showed me I need to do better at saying no and now I’m excited I can read a different genre. I wish there was a clear ending but I understand in leu of keeping the storyline open all in all written good just very obvious at a point

I caught myself rolling my eyes with this story. Characters were unlikable and their immaturity was hard to tolerate. This was more mean girls than scream

Book flowed pretty well, at least as well as a group of teenagers making their own drama does. I did not enjoy the mental health stigma, even if she takes it back later, saying Jonathan was “not better like he said he was” just because he was taking mental health medications. I guessed the killer, but it was set up nicely! Overall, it was okay book.
