Betrayal, passage of time, new discoveries, new disappointment...it's all there
3.5 Stars for this first book of the series. It's really best to read the series in order...it does make a difference! I had the misfortune of reading book 2 before realizing it was a series, so I finished that one and then came to read this one.
This one is better written than the 2nd book in the series. The characters we're also better developed in this one than the second one.
Through the course of the book we learned the back history of Cody and his reasoning behind his behavior 14 years earlier. He may find it justifiable, but his reasons are lame and tough to forgive; it's a good thing Lee Ann struggled with this or her character would not have been very likable. In the end, the only thing that made his earlier behavior tolerable was his complete immaturity and being a teenage male, which while still reprehensible is at least moderately understandable since he now was contrite and apologetic for his behavior. However, what I do find as flawed is Lee Ann's ability to forgive him so quickly for his negligence later, after they were reconciling, after he promised he would change, after he promised he would never leave them (despite their earlier disagreement) ... he did not follow through with a promise, and therefore, a commitment to his own daughters .... what NO phone????!!! Up to that point I was giving this book a 4.... but I cannot overlook that this woman accepted his behavior with no more than a sex scene to forgive it.... ugh. This should either have been better developed or there should have been a missed call where there was still a dad missing from the festivities without people knowing why, but that he attempted and there was no answer which would then be more understandable as to why he then made the next stupid decision to he did. Storyline much better than the 2nd of the series... Storyline, development, romantic interest nicely done, but really could do without the detailed sex scenes, it really does nothing to develop the story, but that's just my opinion obviously someone needs it. LOL
