Spice & Steam

I received an ARC for an honest review from Book Sirens. It contains several spicy short stories, some of which I loved and other were blah. I rated all below: Lover's Escape: First bit was fast paced like any true anthology but some of the spice scenes were condensed down to 4 sentences…. We are here for the smut darling… elaborate a bit more here. It’s okay to take your time here. 3 Stars Sleeping Cutie: Much more interesting. Very fast paced but oh so delicious. There was one instance of descriptive language I didn’t care for but otherwise I loved the detail. 4 stars Faith and Kalili go to Rome: I actually quite liked this one. Demon and angel lesbians… it was a sexy little story with just a hint of spice. The scene however was intense and you could feel the connection from the page. Loved it; but who doesn't love some mythology. 5 stars One Must Imagine Andromeda Happy: This is written in extreme lyrical style writing and I was very not here for it. The paragraphs and sentences seem like whispers plucked from clouds and make only enough sense to string together a story(and that's being nice). The story itself has weird timing and flow too. 2 stars Deal with the Devil: Bit weird but not too bad. I was loathing some of the writing until the author made a joke on what was not flowing correctly to signify that it was indeed supposed to be unrealistic. There is one place where she had a writing mix up in POV but hey it happens. Overall, if you were just here for the steam it was like a 3ish of 5. Total middle of the road disappointment we are all so used to. 3 stars Taken By Mothman: I actually really enjoyed this one. Its fast paced and well written. The detail is amazing and you can relate very easily to it. Even being fantasy it hit human emotion very well. 5 stars on this one. Dragons of Avalon: Due to title and names, I wanted that era retelling and it wasn't present. At all really. I also wouldn't say this was all that spicy, more steam like the author wanted to write explicit but hasn't come out of their shell enough to commit and do the thing(or well character). The story took a sharp turn in the middle with no real lead in or explanation and it was whiplash even for a short story. Definitely one that leaves more to be wanted and sadly its in the not so good fashion. 3 stars. Overall average is 3.5 stars
