An excellent biography of Shirley Chisholm, aimed middle grade and independent young readers.
I only knew of Shirley Chisholm by her stats as the first black woman elected to the House of Representatives and as the first black woman to run for President from a major political party. The biography is short and relatively surface-level, but I learned a lot more about Shirley Chisholm and about my country. I really knew nothing about all her work for students’ education and for schools providing meals for those children in need in NYC.
I definitely recommend this book, especially as a gift to young readers.
