So Thirsty

A woman must learn to take life by the throat after a night out leads to irrevocable changes in this juicy, thrilling novel from the USA Today bestselling author of Such Sharp Teeth and Black Sheep.
Sloane Parker is dreading her birthday. She doesnât need a reminder sheâs getting older, or that sheâs feeling indifferent about her own life. Her husband surprises her with a birthday-weekend getawayânot with him, but with Sloaneâs longtime best friend, troublemaker extraordinaire Naomi. Sloane anticipates a weekend of wine tastings and cozy robes and strategic avoidance of issues sheâd rather not confront, like her husbandâs repeated infidelity.
But when they arrive at their rental cottage, it becomes clear Naomi has something else in mind. She wants Sloane to stop letting things happen to her, for Sloane to really live. So Naomi orchestrates a wild night out with a group of mysterious strangers, only for it to take a horrifying turn that changes Sloaneâs and Naomiâs lives literally forever. The friends are forced to come to terms with some pretty eternal consequences in this bloody, seductive novel about how itâs never too late to find satisfaction, even though it might taste different than expected.

Iâm actually really disappointed in this book. Rachel Harrison is one of my favorite authors, Iâve read all of her other novels and theyâve all been utter perfection. But this one fell short. The plot was messy and it didnât have to be. The book couldâve been 100 pages longer and it couldâve went into the backstory of vampirism in Rachelâs world. It was just barely explained. I wouldâve loved history on all the vampire characters (who were arguably the best part of this story) and learned what being a vampire is like. Not enough detail in that regard. The romance was underdeveloped, and the âfriendshipâ felt like two high school girls who hated each other acting as friends. The ending left much to be desired and actually really confused me. Iâm not even sure what happened. I donât regret reading this book, however it couldâve been SO much better. It had lots of potential that just didnât pan out.
It was unremarkable but I had fun.
Would I recommend this? Probably not.

A fun, easy to read, feminist horror.
would love to give it 0
This is a 34 chapter introduction to a story that we didn't get. I didn't realize that when the description (basically) says "this woman has to figure out how to be a vampire," it meant that that was the entire plot; nothing else of importance happens.
There wasn't a situation that these women were forced into, the just turned and had to figure out the first few days of vampirism. There was no overall threat to these group of vampires, no minor threats. There was no character growth.
Our two main characters, whom we're told are great friends, start off as toxic friends--teenagers in adult bodies--and end the story as toxic friends. Stories about female friendships like this irritate me; one is always a manipulative controlling predator and the other is a wet blanket who has to tag along.

I donât really think of myself as a vampire book kind of girl, but this was excellent!
