Siddhartha (Dover Thrift Editions: Classic Novels)
In the novel, Siddhartha, a young man, leaves his family for a contemplative life, then, restless, discards it for one of the flesh. He conceives a son, but bored and sickened by lust and greed, moves on again. Near dispair, Siddhartha comes to a river where he hears a unique sound. This sound signals the true beginning of life - the beginning of suffering, rejection, peace and, finally, wisdom.

This book feels simple in words; when you finish, you feel wiser. Although it comes from a different culture, the experiences are relatable. In life, we suddenly become aware of ourselves. The person we become drifts in the fluidity of the world, manifesting into the person we want to be. I learned this after reading this chronicle; although you may learn something else, something more invaluable to you. My favorite quote from this book is: "What you search is not necessarily the same as what you find. When you let go of the searching, you start discovering."
