Shelter Mountain: A Virgin River Novel – A Heartwarming Contemporary Romance Featuring a Protective Marine Hero

By Robyn Carr

"Carr is a master of charming small-town ambience." --Publishers Weekly on Return to Virgin River Welcome back to Virgin River with the book that inspired the longest running scripted series on Netflix... John "Preacher" Middleton is closing Jack's Bar when a woman and her young son come in out of the wet night. A marine who has seen his share of pain, Preacher knows a crisis when he sees one--the woman is covered in bruises. He wants to protect them and to punish whoever did this, but he knows immediately that this is more than just instinct. Paige Lassiter has stirred up emotions in this gentle giant of a man--emotions that he has never allowed himself to feel. Then Paige's ex-husband turns up in Virgin River. And if there's one thing the marines' motto of Semper Fidelis--always faithful--has taught Preacher, it's that some things are worth fighting for. A good and solid 4star rating. I really liked this book, better than the first one. As a fan of the Virgin River Netflix series, the differences between the show and the books is getting more and more different. After the first book, I liked the creative changes the show producers made, making the show's first season better than the first book. However, I actually liked this book better than the shows second season.

With the first book and the first show season, I liked how the show featured a more of an ensemble cast and introduced more characters. However, with the second book and second season, I liked how the book focused more on Preacher and Paige's story that the show didn't go into any great depth in.

At this point, I'm not sure if I want to read the third book before or after I watch the third season.
