Not a fan of the overall concept of this book. I also feel that there are clues that a sequel would just add to Wren's suffering....
This book is weird. And beautiful. I can't wait to read it again and highlight all my favorite lines.
OK... so I didn't read the inner flap summary, teaser, or whatever you call it... I went in blind. I read thrillers, romance, historical fiction, and general fiction. Definitely didn't know that I was entering into an alternate universe of mutants. So this was completely unexpected for me. Not sure that I would have picked up a book highlighting the love story of a couple where one of them turns into a great white shark. Interestingly, this strange storyline didn't dissuade me from reading the whole book in a day. I didn't really find the love story of Wren and Lewis that engaging. However, I did enjoy the relationship between Wren and her mother--- and her mothers story.
You see, I’m not sure. This is a magical realism story where mutations exist that prompt humans to gradually turn into animals.
I know I enjoyed the format of the book and the writing itself.
The story? I liked learning the most about Angela and wish I had more of her.
I definitely cried at a pretty important part.
I’m not entirely sure what the mutation is supposed to represent. Death? Change? Both?
I enjoyed it though.

I honestly thought this book was too weird and far-fetched for me, but it completely surprised me. I ended up feeling so invested and empathetic toward the characters. It’s such an unusual story, but there’s a lot of heart in it. Not an absolute must-read, but definitely worth the experience.
