Y’all, this book is nearly 500 pages long, and I read it in ONE SITTING.
One.
Sitting.
Do you know what kind of reckless behavior that encourages? My responsibilities were out here filing missing person reports. Laundry? Ignored. Sleep? Abandoned. Hydration? A distant memory.
Shadow Reaper had me locked in like it was holding me hostage.
We have deadly blackmist, reapers stealing magic, ancient legends, betrayals, secrets, found family, enemies-to-lovers tension so sharp it could probably qualify as a weapon, and enough twists to keep me flipping pages like my life depended on it.
Viri is exactly the kind of heroine I love—determined, fierce, and fully prepared to make questionable decisions in the name of saving the world. Meanwhile, Reeve Ashton is a silver-tongued criminal, which is unfortunately one of my favorite character flaws.
The action never lets up, the world-building is fantastic, and every time I thought I knew where the story was headed, Lynette Noni basically laughed in my face and said, “Watch this!”
Now about that ending…
Lynette Noni, I don’t hate you for that cliffhanger.
But I’m also not real happy about it either.
Just saying…
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll just be over here waiting for the next book and questioning every life choice that led me to start a duology before it was complete.

I am a little disappointed in this book. The world building and magic are incredibly creative! The plot itself was rather lacking though. I certainly didn’t enjoy the attraction between the MFC & MMC. It just didn’t feel right to me. The only plot point that I wasn’t expecting was the very end, naturally the cliff hanger. Up until that point it was pretty predictable. I thought this was a stand alone but it appears not.
I will probably read book 2 (if there is one) but since this just came out I might be far enough removed that I don’t.
I do have to say that the Prison Healer series is one of my all time favorites, too 5 for sure. But nothing else I have read from this author comes even remotely close.
