I love this book. I'm on a roll with good sci-fi fantasy with well written original stories. And this book continues the streak. You've probably read the synopsis already, and it's hard to say much without getting into spoiler land. So I'll just talk about some of the aspects I liked.
Usually I start with any criticisms I have about a book first, get those out of the way and then talk about what I like. But honestly, I'm having a hard time thinking of anything I didn't like. Maybe the ending a bit? No, that's not true. Even the ending seemed... fitting.
I really liked how the stories moves down through generations. I didn't feel like it "skipped" through time, I felt like it progressed naturally.
I often struggle with sci fi books on alien planets. They usually feel too strange, or like it's just earth with extra appendages. It's hard to find the sweetspot. But Semiosis did. The world felt alien, but relatable at the same time.
I just can't say enough good things about this book. If you want a good solid sci fi that feel completely fresh, give this one a try.
