Satantango

I gave this book a 2. 1 because the author had taken the time to write it and 1 because a publisher had taken effort to publish it. I didn’t finish it. It was disjointed depressing and I didn’t like the writing style.

Be warned: if you are looking for a light read, this is not it. What Satantango offers instead is a tango between hope and despair in the muddy, rainy, dark Hungarian countryside from the Hungarian master of the apocalypse. Written without chapters, this dense novel is demanding and rewarding at the same time. If you are ready to witness community collapse, human fallibility, time and perspective with dark humor in an Eastern European setting, then pickup this novel by the Nobel prize-winning author Krasznahorkai.
