Mixed feelings on this. Written poetically in spots, repetitive in others. Graphic details of events I would not have preferred reading graphically. It's a memoir, so I do understand the harsh realities of life, but if I'd have wrote that, it would not have been affirmed. Native indigenous or not, kinda feel it should be equally weighted and critiqued the same, then. Trigger or content warning now comes on shows and movies but doesn't on books. I'm NOT suggesting it should. I'm simply sorry it didn't for this one. Although I completely feel compassion for the author's experiences. Beautiful in parts, self-centered in others, excellent retelling of Native (Indian) pride and ancestral history that needs shared and appreciated. I'm curious to see how the author's writing grows, as she grows.
