This was great! Everly got on my nerves with the cat and mouse game, but the book was still an engaging read nonetheless. A book 2 looks possible. It would be interesting to see what happens with Real’s father and what unfolds between Theory & Targen.
Just in case you didn’t know, there is a cliffhanger 🫤 I enjoyed this read however Everly really worked my nerves 😒 Real attempted to show her how real he was from the beginning and her and them damn rules was so aggravating 😤 but he still applied pressure.. Ev’s story and confidence started in college when she fell for a guy and gave herself to and he only acknowledged her in private but was shameful in public.. this is what shaped her warped thinking from that point on.. she started dating and creating rules to not become attached to prevent getting hurt and being shunned in public.. she would have these private romances while the “sponsor” would pay for various things.. until she met Real and both started getting attached and as he wanted more, that scared her and she kept running 🏃🏾♀️ the family dynamics on both sides are extremely entertaining especially when they all arrive in Emancipation Louisiana.. then the story unfolds with Targen and Theory who both have dark pasts that they seem to be hiding from, but found a connection in one another.. I enjoyed this read, however I do think the ending was a bit rushed over and could have been more detailed.. especially since it ends on a cliffhanger.. but overall it was good 👍🏾
As a plus size woman that’s experienced some of the same things as Everly I wanted to sympathize with her. I could understand her resistance to love and a meaningful relationship. However the cat and mouse got kinda old to me. You had Montreal who wasn’t ashamed to show her that he wasn’t like the men of her past, wasn’t ashamed to love her out loud, challenged every rule she called herself putting in place to protect her heart and I felt like she still gave him her ass to kiss at the end of the day. He honestly deserved better in my opinion and should’ve stopped chasing her way before he did. 95% of the book was spent of her guarding her heart and him trying to tear her walls down so much so that their happily ever after felt rushed to me. I would've folded halfway in the book when Montreal tracked her down and followed her to Louisiana. If that wasn’t enough to show you he was serious about you then I don't know what is! Then the remainder of the book could’ve been spent developing their love story and filling in the gaps of some the side characters. I’m sure the gaps in Theory and Targen’s story will be filled in with their book but there are still some open storylines like Epiphany and Jagger and what is Jailbait I mean Juvie up to??!! I’m also curious on this plan Real’s daddy has cooked up.
SN: I think the reviews are low for this book because people are expecting the MMC to be a Tremell Kinsey or Demon Montana this ain’t that but it’s still a good book!
