Really Good, Actually: A Novel

Maggie is fine. She’s doing really good, actually. Sure, she’s broke, her graduate thesis on something obscure is going nowhere, and her marriage only lasted 608 days, but at the ripe old age of twenty-nine, Maggie is determined to embrace her new life as a Surprisingly Young Divorcée™.

This book was not what I was expecting. It was good. Knowing the writer wrote on Schitt's Creek I could definitely feel those vibes. The overexplaining got tedious but I also really related with the character in a lot of ways. I would recommend it only because it feels pretty universal for mental health struggles and feelings of "not normal "

Listening to this book was akin to watching a reality TV show. Maggie is extremely toxic and unlikable but you can't "look away".  The train wreck that is her life and personality are a reprieve from whatever may be going wrong or could go wrong in your own life.

Maggie annoyed the hell out of me but I kept listening because I was so glad she wasn't me and her misery and drama became my entertainment. Maybe that makes me a horrible person, lol, but I think that has a lot to do with why reality TV is so successful.

By the end of the book the author does manage to allow Maggie some semblance of redemption but for me it wasn't really enough to allow for connection or a whole lot of empathy.

There were several instances where I got a sense of things being said and happening for shock value rather than adding to the substance of the story, but given the author's comedic background I guess it kind of makes sense.

Many thanks to the Libro.fm Librarian ALC program, Harper Audio, and the author for this complimentary Audiobook Listening Copy.

Had to DNF this one. It’s like one long internal dialogue that drones on and on and on and onnnnnnn. There is no real point or plot in sight. I struggled to get more than halfway through and STILL nothing of substance was happening. I’m done wasting my time.

Thank you Harper Collins India from providing me a review copy of the book.

This book is actually, really good. As a debut novel by Monica Heisy ,this book is actually very very good. The narrative part and the humor is best. It's genre is humorous fiction, and this was my first book of this genre and I really liked it.

The story starts with the 29 year old narrator, Maggie whose marriage has ended just 608 days after it started. The book describes Maggie's life when her husband moved out and she wants to embrace her divorced status.

The book has really good humor which got me laughing at many times. The book kept me hooked with Maggie as she goes through the ups and down of her life.

The book is worth readings, you'll definitely love it! You can also read it when you wanna take a break from your usual genre. I highly recommend it to everyone.
