Queen of Hearts (Queen of Hearts, 1)

The first novel in Colleen Oakes’s epic, imaginative and twisted series, perfect for fans of Dorothy Must Die and Heartless, tackles the origin of one of the most infamous villains—the Queen of Hearts.

This is not the story of the Wonderland we know. Alice has not fallen down a rabbit hole. This is a Wonderland where beneath each smile lies a secret, each tart comes with a demand, and only prisoners tell the truth.

Dinah is the princess who will one day reign over Wonderland. She has not yet seen the dark depths of her kingdom; she longs only for her father’s approval and a future with the boy she loves. But when a betrayal breaks her heart and threatens her throne, she is launched into Wonderland’s dangerous political game. Dinah must stay one step ahead of her cunning enemies or she’ll lose not just the crown but her head.

Don’t miss Blood of Wonderland, the must-read sequel to Dinah’s story!

Feeling all sorts of different levels of anxiety after finishing this book.

It has been a while since I have read such a book filled with so much adventure, eerie, intense, maniacal, twisted plots.
I thought with the knowledge of what I already had of the Queen of hearts (from *ahem* Disney), I presumed to know all there is about her.
WELP, I underestimated this female, from this first novel I can truly say she was warm, loving, longed for love, but, always had a super hot (lava level) anger.
If I can metaphorically put this in picture form: If her story was an onion, this is the first layer that was cut into. It stings your eyes and you possibly cry. LOL
For the next book, (from what I gathered in the little preview excerpt) its like the anxiety you get as you cut more layers of onions, will you cry more? Will you cut yourself with the knife? And especially, I need to finish this already! I need to caramelize these onions!!!!

Did I have breakfast yet? You will never know.

LOL

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I assumed it would be a difficult, dragging read. It was the complete opposite. Fun, easy, with enough details to think up these lovely Wonderland details in my head.

Can't wait for the next one...
