Part fable, part ghost story, this tale of adventure is all about the things we do for love. Silas is an unusual boy, able to see and interact with ghosts. When his father is taken by criminals in the middle of the night, he goes off in search of his father. Delightful story with a fair dose of magical realism. Appropriate for all ages.
I adored this.
R.J. Palacio can write her tush off. This was so different from Wonder, which I also loved, that I now know I'll read anything she writes.
There's a lot going on in this little book - western elements, adventure, bad guys, good guys, mysteries, a pony, a ghost, and hard hitting topics around growing up, love, family, loyalty and loss. All of these things so craftfully entwined that I could hardly put this down and when I had to, I was always thinking about when I could pick it back up again.
Wouldn't want to spoil this for anyone, so that's all I'm going to say.
