From New York Times bestselling author Lauren Oliver comes a captivating, thrilling novel of fear, friendship, courage, and hope that will leave readers gasping for air. Now a television series on Prime Video, starring Olivia Welch, Mike Faist, Jessica Sula, Enrique Murciano, Camron Jones, and Ray Nicholson!

Panic began as so many things do in Carp, a poor town of twelve thousand people in the middle of nowhere: because it was summer, and there was nothing else to do.

Heather never thought she would compete. She'd never thought of herself as fearless, the kind of person who would fight to stand out. But when she finds something, and someone, to fight for, she will discover that she is braver than she ever thought.

Dodge has never been afraid of panic. His secret will fuel him, and get him all the way through the game; he's sure of it. But what he doesn't know is that he's not the only one with a secret. Everyone has something to play for.

For Heather and Dodge, the game will bring new alliances, unexpected revelations, and the possibility of first love for each of them—and the knowledge that sometimes the very things we fear are those we need the most.

Read the book that inspired the series, which the New York Times described as “Reminiscent of ‘The Hunger Games’ but grounded in the real world.”

In short:

-The concept is great.
-The plot is excelent.
-The characters don't feel super real, but I did come to like/care about them thanks to the previous point.
-Even if they didn't seem like real people a lot of the time, I liked that it was hard to really say whether the characters were meant to be good or bad or feel like you knew them, which is kind of the point of the book, so I guess when it comes to themes and messages it gets an A+ on the main one.
-The setting was very bland.
-The writing was meh. Some parts were great, some parts made me roll my eyes, but in general it was pretty neutral.

Overall, with all it's flaws (and it had it's fair share), I was glued to it for two days. So yeah.

I had high expectation about this book. Too bad it didn't meet my expectation. Not even close. I got bored reading it.
