Artful mastery at its finest!

Kwame Alexander teams up with Chris Colderly and Marjory Wentworth to pay tribute some some of the great poets - both classic and contemporary. And Ekua Holmes’s mixed media illustrations with their bright reds, yellows and oranges are stunning.

The English teacher/librarian in me practically nerded out when I saw the list of poets being celebrated - all my favorites! Sandra Cisneros, Billy Collins, Walter Dean Myers, e. e. cummings, Frost, Dickenson, Neruda...

Having read and taught these poets and their poetry, I admire the cleverness of Alexander, Colderly, and Wentworth as they imitate each poet’s style and integrate bits and pieces of each poet’s work within their respective tributes.

My favorite: “The Poet Inside Me”

Love, love Cisneros’s “The House on Mango Street”, and her poem “Eleven” was one of my all-time favorite poems to teach.
