I could not connect to the characters outside Mark is unhinged and Alana is just trying to survive. I wish there as more character development. There really needed to be more conversations between the two of them. Mark wouldn't let Alana talk so it stopped all chance for the audience to get to know either of them since they were isolated in the house together. I think it would have been better if they started the day off as "normal people" and then after breakfast they assumed their roles. That would have allowed for them to have conversations during breakfast and the audience to get to see them.
Also the ending was equivalent to running into a brick wall. There needed to be an epilogue.
I'm not going to say the book was bad, but it could have been better. I wish it had been better.
