No One Can Know: A Novel

The USA TODAY Bestseller! Three sisters, two murders, and too many secrets to count.
“A propulsive and intricate psychological thriller. . . Meticulously plotted. . . Family connections prove both their damage and their worth in this community-focused thriller.” —Kirkus (starred review)
Fourteen years ago, the Palmer sisters—Emma, Juliette, and Daphne—left their home in Arden Hills and never returned. But when Emma discovers she’s pregnant and her husband loses his job, she has no option but to return to the house that she and her estranged sisters still own . . . and where their parents were murdered.
Emma has never told anyone what she saw the night her parents died, even when she became the prime suspect. But her presence in the house threatens to uncover secrets that have stayed hidden for years, and the sisters are drawn together once again. As they face their memories of the past, rivalries restart, connections are forged, and, for the first time, Emma starts to ask questions about what really happened that night.
The more Emma learns, the more riddles emerge. And Emma begins to wonder just what her siblings will do to keep the past buried, and whether she did the right thing staying quiet about what was whispered that night: “No one can know.”

Fourteen years ago, Randolph and Irene Palmer were murdered in their Arden Hills home. All while their three daughters were asleep in the backyard in their tree house. The police were never able to find who murdered them, but a large amount of suspicion was placed on the Palmerâs middle daughter, Emma. The other sisters, Juliette and Daphne were questioned and let go, because the police believed they had nothing to do with the murders.
Now Emma is married and living a beautiful life with her husband Nathan. Emma has never really told Nathan the entirety of her past. When Emma comes home one afternoon and finds Nathan sitting in the kitchen, she is puzzled. Nathan explains that he has lost his job and the accepted offer on their dream home has fallen through. Emma has her own shocking news as wellâ¦sheâs pregnant.
Since the sisters still own the Arden Hills home, Nathan suggests that they move in there and fix up the house to sell. With no other options, Emma agrees to the plan. Emma canât help but wonder what really happened the night of her parents murder. Did she do the right thing by protecting her sisters? Or did she shield a killer? After all, if she didnât do it, who did?
Reluctantly returning to her home town, Emma is still plagued by all the rumors all over again. Her sisters find out that she is back in the family home, and it is making them nervous of what Emma and Nathan might find. What if they uncover some of the families darkest secrets.
No One Can Know is another twisty, thriller that will keep you guessing until the last page. I really enjoyed the pacing of the book and found it to be very entertaining. This is my third read by the author and I can't wait to read more of her work in the future!
I have also read Kate Alice Marshallâs What Lies in the Woods and Our Last Echoes. Both were 4 star reads for me.
This one stars Emma and her husband who have fallen on hard times. He has just lost his job, they recently purchased a house they now can't afford, and to top it off she is now pregnant. So she lets him know that she, along with her two sisters, own her parent's old house. So with their new hardship they make plans to live there temporarily. But..... It's a murder house! lol. Both her parent's were murdered there years ago and Emma was the prime suspect. She forgot to mention that little fact to her husband.
What follows is a VERY twisty yarn that has two timelines: Then and Now with Emma and her two sisters as it goes back and forth. Emma is shunned in the town where they move as everyone remembers that she was accused of murdering her parents.
So let's talk about plot twists a little....... I do love them but maybe sometimes you go overboard? Literally every chapter in this book ends either in a plot twist or some sort of misdirection. With the short chapters I felt I was getting slammed with them.
The perfect example is a football game that goes back and forth. Soon you get to the point where you say, "Ok, whoever has the ball last is winning this game" With this book it's, "Ok, whoever gets the last chapter is the murderer." Sometimes I felt like just skipping to the end.
It's still a very well written book. I enjoyed it and think it's best on the beach where you turn off your brain. It moves too fast to take it seriously.
I really appreciate Flatiron books for giving me the opportunity to read this book for free for a honest review and it has a publication date of January 23, 2024
