No Girl Left Behind (THE JAMIE AUSTEN THRILLERS Book 5)

While I found the story interesting and am sympathetic to the plight of trafficked women, I think the author took too many liberties with reality. I lived in Abu Dhabi for five years in the 1990s. His portrayal of the culture is more like that of Saudi Arabia not the UAE. I’m guessing he needed the choice of location so that he could have all the glamour and excessive wealth and the ability for outsiders to visit, but chose the ‘tribal’ Aspect from somewhere else. The UAE that I knew was the most progressive Muslim country with respect to women. They are allowed to work outside the home, drive cars, own property and dress as they choose. And by the way, NO ONE. Calls it Abu Dhabi City. As far as sea snakes being a constant danger, I swam and scuba dived the Persian Gulf almost weekly and never saw one or was warned of them. Finally as for the Iranian navy patrolling the coast between Dubai and Abu Dhabi—pure nonsense. I think the author did a disservice to Abu Dhabi by setting the story there and should have done more research and used fewer stereotypes. As for the ‘heroine’ Jamie, she was the most self righteous character I’ve come across. No qualms whatsoever about killing people in her way. No qualms about setting up a turf war that resulted in many deaths. And no qualms at all about stealing a $35 million painting, yacht, and billion dollars—all because she’s a righteous servant of God, saving women. Will not be reading any more of his books!!!
