Namesake (The World of the Narrows, 2)

LIMITED FIRST PRINT RUN―featuring spray-painted edges, while supplies last.
Following the Hello Sunshine Book Club pick Fable, New York Times bestselling author Adrienne Young returns with Namesake, a captivating conclusion to Fable's story, filled with action, emotion, and lyrical writing.
Trader. Fighter. Survivor.
With the Marigold ship free of her father, Fable and its crew were set to start over. That freedom is short-lived when she becomes a pawn in a notorious thug’s scheme. In order to get to her intended destination she must help him to secure a partnership with Holland, a powerful gem trader who is more than she seems.
As Fable descends deeper into a world of betrayal and deception, she learns that the secrets her mother took to her grave are now putting the people Fable cares about in danger. If Fable is going to save them then she must risk everything, including the boy she loves and the home she has finally found.

NAMESAKE picks up where FABLE left off, sending readers diving headfirst into a sea of confusion and betrayal. Where FABLE focused on introducing Fable, her lineage, and her abilities, NAMESAKE explores the unanswered questions, relationships, and mysteries of Fable’s past and present. Fable has shown us her world, but now we are left questioning every motive and action. Instead of learning from Fable, readers are learning with her as the world she thought she knew turns upside down.
There’s something serene about Young’s writing. Whether characters are lounging on the ship, diving into the darkest depths of the sea, or fighting for their lives with blood oozing from their wounds, Young’s prose encompasses readers with a recollecting calm. Like FABLE, each word forms a ripple, each sentence a crest, each page a wave. The lyrical prose rises and falls with Fable’s confusion, emphasizing the deception and betrayal she must face and instigate. Young plays a game of cat and mouse with her readers, pulling on heartstrings at just the right moment and dangling hope in moments when all feels lost. I applaud Young’s storytelling but give a standing ovation to her ability to grow character relationships.
I really loved Fable, so when I received the e-ARC, I couldn’t be more thrilled. This second novel continues right where we left off and doesn’t really give you a recap, so if you forgot what happened at the end of the first one, I’d reread it.
This second book really dives more into the backstory of the main characters and how they came to be where they are. There are shocking twists and revelations but nothing too out there. The “action” revolves more around business and politics than it does on the high-seas.
Overall, it was a fun read and I enjoyed it immensely.
