My Father Bleeds History (Maus)

The bestselling first installment of the graphic novel acclaimed as “the most affecting and successful narrative ever done about the Holocaust” (Wall Street Journal) and “the first masterpiece in comic book history” (The New Yorker) • PULITZER PRIZE WINNER • One of Variety’s “Banned and Challenged Books Everyone Should Read”

A brutally moving work of art—widely hailed as the greatest graphic novel ever written—Maus recounts the chilling experiences of the author’s father during the Holocaust, with Jews drawn as wide-eyed mice and Nazis as menacing cats.

Maus is a haunting tale within a tale, weaving the author’s account of his tortured relationship with his aging father into an astonishing retelling of one of history's most unspeakable tragedies. It is an unforgettable story of survival and a disarming look at the legacy of trauma.

Most depressing graphic novel I ever read. But since humans learn better when learning through animal portrayals I guess it's not the worst thing.

While I appreciate the nature of the story, the author’s attempt to cloak his writing in comics does nothing for the story or his abilities. I found this book hard to read because of his writing style.

Sharp and poignant - very raw illustrations and beautiful cross between a biography and autobiography on very tough subject matter.

Part 1 of an absolute must read. It makes my heart ache but it’s essential to learn about.

One of the most important comic books of all time. Spiegelman's transcription and artwork paints yet another horrifying and true story of the Holocaust and has become a master historical account for generations to come. A triumph in the realms of memoir, story, and art.
