I reserved this at my local library after seeing the film because I wanted, as someone who often nods off in the cinema, to catch up on anything I had missed! Reading the book, I realised that I hadn’t but I was so glad that I had taken the time to actually read the story. I haven’t read anything by Graham Swift before but “Mothering Sunday” has given me a taste for his writing and I shall be seeking out more of his works. The story , which takes us deep into the thoughts and memories of Jane, the heroine from one significant day in her life as a maid in a country house, to her later years as an elderly lady is enrapturing enough to draw the reader back to a time long forgotten in the world of England in the early twentieth century.
