Mirror, Mirror: A Twisted Tale

First of all, the twist of the book isn’t really that the Queen poisons the prince. They give you a glimpse at the beginning but it doesn’t happen until the last 20ish pages of the book. The twist here is more like “What if the Evil Queen was Snow’s aunt?” Other than that, the book was good. However, it doesn’t really stand out in the series. The book jumps back and forth between Snow’s point of view, and the Evil Queen’s. (Who in this book is named Ingrid). In my opinion, most of Snow’s POV didn’t add much to the already existing material. There were some things here and there, but for the most part, it just followed the movie. Ingrid’s POV was my favorite though. Yes, I am biased because the Evil Queen is my favorite villain, but we got a backstory! It changed the world of Snow White that we knew. That being said, this book just didn’t work as a Twisted Tale. I didn’t hate this, it’s FAR from my least favorite, but I just wish we could have had more of a different story. Again, it followed so close to the original movie that at one point I remember thinking to myself, “Is this a Twisted Tale or one of those book and movie tie ins?” I was still entertained by this book and I actually liked that things actually tied up nicely! I just didn’t like that this didn’t feel much like a Twisted Tale.

While "Mirror, Mirror" was a decent read it just left me wanting.... more.

While the story held my interest for the most part, I felt it was too close to the original telling with a few modifications. It could have used more twists and turns than what was provided to truly make it a "twisted tale."

I will say I did appreciate a glimpse into the Evil Queens past and why she became the way she did and the alternating between Snows view and Ingrids (Evil Queen) view was particularly enjoyable.
