It's taken me a long time to read this - not any fault of the book's. It's not a long book, just term time and I haven't been consistent. Enjoyable - a male colleague said he cried at the end. I didn't find it that moving, but maybe because of disjointed way in which I've read it, and a book about male friendship is more moving to men? . It's well-written. Sweary in places but authentic for teenagers growing up in Scotland in 80s. Moves from being about teenage boys' bond and how to live, to right to die in second half.

A book of two halves. First half written in a Scottish style somewhere between Trainspotting and Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour. Second half much more serious in tone, somewhat melancholic, and conducive to discussion on a melancholic topic amongst the book club members.
