Malice (The Faithful and the Fallen)

"The Banished Lands has a violent past where armies of men and giants clashed in battle, but now giants are seen, the stones weep blood and giant wyrms are stirring. Those who can still read the signs see a threat far greater than the ancient wars. For if the Black Sun gains ascendancy, mankind's hopes and dreams will fall to dust ... and it can never be made whole again. Malice is a dark epic fantasy tale of blind greed, ambition, and betrayal."--

I am overwhelmed with emotions upon finishing this book. I stayed up late last Night to finish it, which was a mistake. My brain refused to shut down and let me sleep, instead it kept trying to work through the ending and try to process.
This book was amazing. I will tell you the first couple hundred pages are mostly world building and a whole lot of character development - but it was very interesting, I was never bored or tired of it. However, I did have a bit of a rough time during this chunk because the author literally introduced ALL of the characters at the same time. It it written in a style like The Song of Ice and Fire, where each chapter was devoted to a particular character, and since there was so many introduced at the same time, I had all but forgotten the first one by the time we made our way back to him.
I felt this book was a slow burn for the first half. When I read about 340 pages in - it SNAPPED. Everything that had been getting set up in the first half was set into motion and I absolutely could not put the book down. It was intricate and masterfully done, I’m in awe of how fantastic the story was.
I did not find it predictable, but I did think I had figured a few things out that would happen by the end. I got one right, but was so wrong at others. The author made me fall in love with these characters and I am feeling so empty after reaching the end - so glad I bought the entire series at once!
I highly, HIGHLY recommend this book!
