Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive

Maid by Stephanie Land deepened my understanding of the struggles faced by people who have grown up with fewer opportunities and resources than I have. It’s one thing to intellectually understand the realities of poverty and quite another to feel as though you’ve been invited into that experience through someone’s honest and compelling story. The book reminded me that behind every statistic is a person navigating challenges that many of us never have to consider. It challenged me to think more carefully about the barriers people face and the assumptions we often make about them. I want to live in a world where we are more aware of, and more sensitive to, the lives of the people around us. I’m grateful for this book’s contribution to my own understanding and for the empathy it inspired.

god this was so good. i watched the show first and i think that definitely helped my understanding and visualization of the story, but i loved it just as much as the show (which i also gave five star hehe i immediately ran to pick up the book the day i finished the netflix series).

Eye-opening, raw & honest, inspiring.

Hated her the writing is fine but often repetitive because this was a magazine stories. She talks about her awful hard luck life but chooses to buy a diamond ring over getting her daughter healthy. She does housekeeping and makes me realize Why I Never want one as she snoops through homes and tries on clothes. She is the kind of person that you hate at the end for all of the Stupid decisions she makes.

I listened to the audio book and found it enjoyable to hear the author tell the story in her own voice.
