But once every seven years, a flare comes, a time when magic runs rampant. Now Kate’s going to have to deal with problems on a much bigger scale: a divine one.

When Kate sets out to retrieve a set of stolen maps for the Pack—Atlanta’s paramilitary clan of shape shifters—she quickly realizes much more is at stake. During a flare, gods and goddesses can manifest and battle for power. The stolen maps are only the opening gambit in an epic tug of war between two gods hoping for rebirth, and if Kate can’t stop the cataclysmic showdown, Atlanta may not survive...

More like 3.5 stars. I tried to give this series another shot. I wasn’t crazy about the first installment, and I wasn’t crazy about this one either. Kate is starting to be a more interesting character as we dip into her past, but I think I have liked all the other characters more than her so far. I do very much like the concept of magic ebbing and flowing in the post apocalyptic world Kate and her gang live in though. Very interesting. I also enjoy the concept of a ward coming into play later on in the series. I will likely read the next book but I’m not desperate for it.

Not as good as the first. It seemed a bit premature to have an epic battle to prevent the apocalypse in book 2. Pacing seemed a little frantic. Enjoyable. Hopefully this got the prove-my-main-character-is-a-badass out of Daniel's system for a bit.
