Lying Beside You (3) (Cyrus Haven Series)

Cyrus Haven and Evie Cormac return in this “expertly paced and psychologically acute” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review) thriller from Michael Robotham that’s “one of his best, suspenseful and hard to put down” (Stephen King).
Twenty years ago, Cyrus Haven survived a family massacre. The killer? His brother Elias.
Now Elias is applying for release from a secure psychiatric hospital—and Cyrus is expected to forgive and welcome him home. In this “brilliant novel” (The Globe and Mail, Toronto), Elias is returning to a very different world. Cyrus is now a successful psychologist, working with the police, sharing his house with Evie Cormac, a damaged and gifted teenager who can tell when someone is lying.
When a man is murdered and his daughter Maya Kirk disappears, Cyrus is called in to profile the killer and help piece together Maya’s last hours. Soon, a second victim is taken, and Evie is the only person who glimpsed the man behind the wheel. But there’s a problem. Only two people believe her. One is Cyrus.
The other is the killer.

So I made a small mistake when I requested this book since I didn't know it was actually Book#3 in a series and I don't like skipping books. Although after reading I had no trouble following and it works as a stand-alone. But spoiler: This one is really good so if you haven't read the first two I would start there. I definitely will!
This one, "Lying Beside You" by Michael Robotham stars Cyrus: A forensic phycologist and Evie: A "Troubled Teen" lol. Evie has the gift to to know when anyone is lying. So good luck to her future husband. The POV goes back and forth between those two and they have some of the best chemistry I have seen in awhile. Both great characters and another reason I wish I would have started with the first two books. They both are a happy family along with Cyrus's brother who was just released from a mental facility for killing his entire family (Luckily Cyrus wasn't there so he survived otherwise who would take him in?) "Hey brother you got the spare bedroom.. Please pick up after yourself and not murder me."
What happens? We have a murder scene where Cyrus is called too of a woman. The woman's dad was also bludgeoned to death in his home. Then another woman goes missing and holy cow we have crazy story about to unfold. This one is a great, dark murder thriller and is even better with the chemistry between Cyrus and Evie. I, being a outstanding detective myself, wasn't able to guess or predict much of about the ending of this one.
Highly recommended! Once again it can be read as a standalone but I recommend starting from the beginning which is what I'm going to do.
I really appreciate Scribner for letting me review this book and it has a publication date of Feb 14, 2023.

I don't like to leave reviews. I just like people to see what I read and get their thoughts. I don't want anyone persuaded by mine.
