Luke in the Land - Bible Study Book with Video Access

In our Bibles, we have four Gospels describing Jesus's time on earth: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The land of Israel--the place Jesus walked and taught during His earthly ministry--is often referred to as the "fifth Gospel."
Follow Kristi McLelland through Israel as we study snapshots from the Gospel of Luke to see where the stories of the Bible took place. Over 7 sessions, challenge the way you read the accounts of Jesus through teaching videos that take you to locations in Israel like Bethlehem, the Sea of Galilee, Gethsemane, Jerusalem, and the road to Emmaus. Along the way, you'll see how Jesus, the Messiah, brought His kingdom to earth for everybody.

Video Sessions:
  • Session 1: Introduction (25:45)--From the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, Kristi McLelland invites women to join her in a journey through the very places Jesus walked. In this introductory session, Kristi demonstrates the snapshot-like structure of the Gospel of Luke and tells of one day in the life of Jesus in the wilderness area along the road to Jericho.
  • Session 2: Incarnation (28:42)--In this session, filmed in Bethlehem, Kristi dispels common myths as she teaches the Christmas story from Luke 2.
  • Session 3: Inauguration (20:03)--At the beginning of His ministry, Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River and then went into the desert for forty days and nights. From those locations, Kristi shows us how this inaugurated Jesus's ministry on earth.
  • Session 4: Invitation (29:39)--Jesus spent most of His time on earth in the region of Galilee. Join Kristi in that region as she describes Jesus calling His disciples and challenges us to follow Him still today.
  • Session 5: Partnership (25:51)--In this session, Kristi walks us through snapshots of Jesus's ministry and teaching in locations around and on the Sea of Galilee.
  • Session 6: Crucifixion (30:52)--Beginning in the Garden of Gethsemane, Kristi walks us through Jesus's last moments before His death in locations like the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Southern Steps of the temple.
  • Session 7: Resurrection (31:04)--After Jesus's resurrection, He spent time teaching, eating, and walking with His disciples. From the road to Emmaus, Kristi sends forth the same challenge Jesus does--go and advance the kingdom.
  • Bonus Session: The Making of Luke in the Land (19:41)--In this bonus video, filmed months after the Luke in the Land taping in Israel, Kristi shares her heart behind the study and how God used "bringing the lights, camera, action" to Israel in her own life.

When Chapelstreet Women announced their winter Bible study Luke in the Land by biblical culturalist Kristi McLelland, I was thrilled! Just as Kristi encourages us not just to read Scripture but to eat the Scripture, I devoured her study on the book of Luke! “The overarching narrative of the Bible is localized among those who are on the bottom of society’s hierarchies and structures. Jesus, the King of kings, came all the way to the lowest circle of humanity, found the lost, the sick, and the marginalized, and prioritized them…When man became a god, God became a man.” “The true soter (Savior) of the world had been born in Bethlehem, was raised in Nazareth, and was now beginning His ministry of inaugurating the kingdom of God–reversing the curse and making all things new. Salvation had come in the person of Jesus and was moving toward people,” of all socioeconomic status, race and gender. Jesus came for “E’erybody!” Our repentance rallies a rise out of God. He is looking not to slay sinners but to save sinners! The Lord desires to enter into our heartbreak so that He can begin the work of healing. The wilderness isn’t the place to grit our teeth but the space to receive God’s grace! Christ’s incarnation was the kingdom’s inauguration; we are Christ’s translation and the kingdom’s invitation! “To say yes to Jesus is to agree to take kingdom adventures as they find you” and “partner with Him in bringing the kingdom of God to earth…The greatest battle for me as a disciple of Jesus is giving that initial yes in my heart to the kingdom adventure standing in front of me.” “Generations are impacted when a woman lives with hope in her hands.” The best Benefactors bend down to serve others. In my space themed classroom may the most exquisite symbol of the sun/Son’s light dominate the atmosphere of our class as a solar sanctuary of rest!
