Love Overboard was definitely a complete 180 from what I usually read, and while I took a chance on it because the premise sounded fun, I felt like the story itself would be a lot better suited as a screenplay for a show like Below Deck rather than a romance novel.
There were parts of it that I enjoyed, particularly the push and pull between Finn and Ember, but there were also many points where, like I said, it felt like I was reading a reality show. I wish that I had gotten insight into Finn’s by hearing his POV, as some of his actions deeply confused me. For example, his entire relationship with Gisella confused and bothered me because if he wasn’t over Ember and supposedly still in love with her, why would he be with another woman? So, having his POV to clear some of this up would’ve been helpful.
I also felt that this book could’ve been a lot shorter than it was, and ended up skimming around 90%. Readers who like real slow-burn romances with unique plot lines and Irish MMCs may enjoy Love Overboard.
