So the good news is even though I am reading these out of order, I was able to understand and follow along! It’s an interesting world with an interesting catalog of creatures. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the series but all those good things didn’t translate to this particular installment, I guess? I hated the characterization of Ellie and Lothaire. The dialogue was painful at times. And Cole did this weird thing where she tried to inject quirkiness into scenes that made me cringe a little. It all came across as bad online RPing and I’ve both seen and been a part of that world. Was I cringe at some point? I probably was! No, I know I was! As always, I encourage anyone interested to read despite my thoughts. What doesn’t work for me may work for you! I will say that I will give Cole another try as far as this series goes! Maybe I’ll be surprised!

Kresley Cole is a genius. Once again we are back to learn more about the Loreans. Lothaire has always been a puzzle for me in previous books. I could never make up my mind if he was good or bad. The mortal Ellie is just perfect for him. I loved this book.
