Long After We Are Gone was heated! I love family dramas and I have enjoyed learning more and more about Heir Property and how it has played a large part in destroying and dismantling Black people's home and family lives for ages. I honestly wouldn’t mind if Heir Property was an element of any book I read going forward!
I enjoyed the story and the narration. It was interesting to see how the siblings viewed their ancestral home, and what measures they would take in order to keep it in the family. I really wanted more of a knock down, drag out fight over the home.
We get the POV of 4 of the King siblings, and in MY opinion, there were too many POVs. It also made the story drag and lull in some areas. Mance and CeCe's storylines were the strongest, and most engaging TO ME. With Mance trying to stay on the up and up, cover medical expenses while trying to save the land, and then CeCe was tangled up in fraudulent dealings...I love juicy drama like that.
There were some shady characters that show one greedy, selfish bastard in the family can ruin things for generations to come. At one point I was so pissed with these siblings because they were all a wreck. I honestly could've done without all the romance, and focused more on the interrelations with the siblings and their personal investment in the land.
Terah Shelton Harris certainly has a way with words. The story of the Solomons had me laughing, crying, commiserating, and cheering on some paramount moments. The story is raw, gritty, and honest with characters who are very well developed. It's been a while since I've just stopped for a moment after reading a book to ruminate on it before moving on to the next read, and Long After We Are Gone, had me do just that.

Beautifully written novel about legacy, family and the rippling effects of our decisions. A testament to the reality of many black families, but particularly those in the gullah-geechee community.
I liked Mance storyline the most. The other siblings were so irritating to me.
