Lick: A Stage Dive Novel (Stage Dive Series Book 1)

Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.

Evelyn Thomas's plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man in her room, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.

One thing is certain, being married to one of the hottest rock stars on the planet is sure to be a wild ride.

Lick has been sitting in my Audible wish list for some time now. At the time, the upcoming release of the fourth book in the Stage Dive series, Deep, was making its waves so I went ahead and used my credit to start this series.

*SIGH* I had to constantly remind myself that this book was originally published a few years back - because of the common romance troupe that is present. There were many times I couldn't stop the eye rolling and wanted to just THROW things. But, I held back. Barely.

The best thing Lick had going for it was the humor. This book is funny - and had me cracking up from time to time. That's not to say that the romance or the characters were bad, per se, it's just something that sticks out MORE.

The chemistry between Evelyn and David wasn't as strong as I would like. They felt like strangers, which in a sense, they were. Evelyn couldn't really remember their night in Vegas together, and after they both decided to give their marriage a chance, there is more sex then talking going on. While many may enjoy this aspect, I did not.

I love sex in books - that is no surprise, but if the sex interferes with the overall character growth and/or the plot, it bugs me. And that's what happened. Yes, later in the book they started talking but it felt to late. Had they just TALKED from the get-go, shit wouldn't have went down the way it did, ya know? I really, really hate that!

Okay moving on.

I did enjoy the secondary characters. Evelyn's best friend and other band mates. They are a great support system for them both and I'm curious enough to dive (haha) into their stories.
Narrator remarks

I love Andi! Like with all my other favorites, she really gets into the character and nails her voice and all the emotion. Looking her up on Audible, I see that she narrates the remaining books in the series and many other books I have had my eye on. My only (small) issue was her interpretation of David.

Overall - Lick was an okay read for me. It sparked my interest enough to want to read the rest of the series - but not enough to rush out and buy them. Do I recommend it? It's sweet, fun and a quick read, so WHY NOT?
