I can’t believe this is the author’s debut novel. It is extraordinary. Read this book (or listen to it). You will not be sorry.

This gets added to my favorites shelf; yep!

I gave up a little more than 50% into the book. I simply did not care what happened to Elizabeth, her daughter, or her dog.

I picked this up because multiple people recommended it to me. I am so glad that I listened to them and read this! What a wonderful, well-written story!

I loved that we got a peek into the life of a female scientist over several decades. The way she lived her life probably wasn't so unusual for the times, and I felt we got to know her well during the course of the story.

I highly recommend this book.

I think talking about women in science is important, and talking about the discrimination of women in science is even more important but Bonnie Garmus didn't do a very good job. The writing is ok, but the characters are flat, there are too many cliches, and some episodes would better be cut out or changed - like the episode with the rape, for example. I don't understand the need to insert rape into a book if this event doesn't seem to impact the character much. Rape is too serious of a thing to just drop it as a plot device and then do nothing with the consequences of it in the character's psychological state. Writers need to stop doing this, seriously. Not every strong woman needs to be raped to become strong.
